Membership idea: The Starving Hacker rate?
From @PumpingStation1:
The Starving Hacker Rate has passed! If you support the hacker community now is a good time! http://bit.ly/4d4t97
Regular membership in Chicago’s Pumping Station: One is $50. However, they just passed the “Starving Hacker” rate, which allows for all the same privileges of membership, except voting rights.
What do you guys think? Have you contemplated something similar in your hackerspace?
we have a different rate for students at entropia and if members cannot pay at all, they don’t, with equal rights. we just ask again after a year or something, if they want to start paying again.
same here at the cccmz. i understand that there is a need for funding for a big enough space. but 50 dollars is a lot. most of our members are students – so that would not be possible.
went to phreakNIC this weekend and I spoke with someone from freeside I think they do something similar to this. We had brought up the idea of a senior citizen discount. Anyone have anything like that going on???
At revspace (soon with actual space) we ask EUR 25,- / month. If someone is not able to cough up that amount, and can concince the treasurer that that is for good reason, something can be arranged. We don’t exactly advertise the fact, but work on the assumption that there should be no financial barrier to become part of the hackerspace.
